18-20 Age Group Representative – 18-20 Rep

Qualifications:

This office exists specifically to give a voice to LGBTQ+ persons between 18 and 20 years old. Any person may run for this Trustee position as long as they are a member in good standing and are under 21 years old when they assume office. This board member must have a contemporary understanding of, and the ability to articulate how LGBTQ+ issues affect their lives and the lives of others their age.

Expectations:

This board position affords the member with the opportunity to gain rewarding experience as a community leader in early adulthood in order to help them play a vital role in future leadership of the LGBTQ+ community. The 18-20 Rep will bring their perspective to the BOR to help ensure that HLP actions, events, and education relate to the 18 to 20 year old members of HLP and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. They will serve as a bridge of understanding between older and younger generations. This Rep is expected to learn about the experiences represented by all other BOR members then share learned knowledge with others in their age group in a relevant age appropriate manner. This Rep is responsible for public and LGBTQ+ community outreach to their age group and for the conception and implementation of at least one HLP event or training session per year that would be of interest to their age group.

Term:

The elected member shall remain in office as the 18-20 Rep until the end of the fiscal year in which they turn 21, or until the end of the fiscal year before their 21st birthday when their birthday falls in January or February. An incumbent 18-20 Rep who is eligible for reelection and who seeks to serve on the board for another term shall be automatically eligible to placed on the ballot for election as the 21-25 Rep as long as that office is up for election in that year. Alternatively, the incumbent may choose to run for election to represent another Identity Group.
